White Widow Strain – Classic Sativa-Dominant Hybrid
White Widow is one of those strains that has been around long enough to earn its reputation instead of needing hype. Known for its heavy trichome coverage, sharp earthy aroma, and fast-hitting cerebral effects, this classic sativa-dominant hybrid has remained a favourite for smokers who want an energetic, clear-headed high without going all the way into a racy pure sativa.
Originally popularized in the Netherlands during the 1990s, White Widow is generally associated with a Brazilian landrace crossed with a South Indian landrace. The result is a resin-heavy hybrid that became famous almost immediately for its frosted appearance and potent head high.
Aroma & Flavour
Don’t expect candy, fruit punch, or dessert terps here. White Widow has a much more old-school profile.
Crack open the bag and you’ll usually get a strong mix of earthy pine, dry wood, spice, hash and slightly pungent herbal notes. Breaking apart the buds tends to bring out more of that musky, incense-like smell, especially once the sticky interior is exposed.
The flavour follows the nose closely. On the inhale, expect earthy and woody notes with a little peppery spice. The exhale is smooth but noticeably hashy, with a dry herbal finish that lingers after the smoke.
If you prefer classic cannabis flavour over ultra-sweet modern genetics, White Widow still holds up extremely well.
Bud Structure & Appearance
One of the first things people notice about a good batch of White Widow is the frost.
The buds are typically light to medium green with a thick coating of cloudy trichomes that can make the flower look almost pale from a distance. Depending on the batch, the nugs can range from moderately dense to slightly fluffy, with plenty of visible resin throughout the flower.
Break one apart and you’ll quickly understand where the “White” part of the name comes from. Properly grown White Widow can leave your fingertips noticeably sticky.
